Canberra Winter Solstice Nude Charity Swim 2018
What better way to start your day than a NUDE charity skinny dip when its minus three degrees outside!?
That's what happened on the morning of June 21st 2018 as we participated in the 2nd Annual Canberra Winter Solstice Nude. The event aims to celebrate the shortest day of the year in style, whilst also raising fun for the Love Your Sister and Lifeline charities.
There was a blend of guys and girls, young and old, all timidly eager to strip off and jump in. That morning it seemed that nobody was withdrawn or concerned about their bodies and being naked. It was great to be alongside so many amazing and like-minded people supporting Lifeline Canberra and Love your Sister. We spent 40 mins around the firepits meeting everyone and hearing their stories about why they are getting involved. It was a great way to get prepared for the swim and made a lot of people who might have been unsure feel comfortable.
We all disrobed at the one minute whistle then slowly made our freezing walk into the water with some going all the way out to the pontoons. For a few people it was just too cold and they ran straight out to be by the fire pits again. Despite the cold it was a great feeling of freedom and fun. This, combined with great company was a perfect way to start the day!
2018's event had 66 participants with more expected for next year. Get Naked Australia will be getting involved and helping promote such a great event!
